Introduction to Dynamics of Structures
In the first part of today's class I gave a number of definitions regarding Dynamics of Structures and later introduced some of the different types of Dynamic Loadings, Dynamic Analysis (Determinisitic and Non Deterministic) and finally i gave a sketchy summary of some of the different tecniques needed to write the equation of motion.
Single Degree of Freedom System - Free Vibrations
In the second part, I introduced the single most useful
model of dynamic behaviour, the Single Degree Of
Freedom system (or SDOF).
After a discussion of the linearization procedure for a
generical force in a neighborhhood of the position of
equilibrium and some consideration on the stability, we
found the solution of the free vibration problem
for either a non dissipative system or a dissipative
system.
